Nick Traver- Macbeth Connection
There are many connections between the themes and characters of Macbeth and The Lion King.
In Macbeth, Macbeth is like Scar in The Lion King. Macbeth kills Duncan for the throne just like Scar kills
Mufasa for the throne. Macbeth feels like he is underappreciated when Duncan says Malcolm is next up
for the throne, just as Scar felt when he knew that Simba would be king over him. For both characters,
Macbeth and Scar, they were both willing to kill people close to them in order to get what they thought
they deserved or wanted.

Also, Malcolm is sort of like Simba. Both Malcolm and Simba are banished, or cast away from their home
after their fathers were killed. Both of them fled for their own safety. Additionally, when they were cast
away from society they grew as people, and eventually came back stronger then ever and challenged for
the throne. They were both successful as Malcolm and Simba came back and won back the throne.

Finally, the witches are basically bad versions of the baboon, or Rafiki. The witches lead Macbeth into
doing all of these awful deeds while Rafiki helped lead Simba to do good.

There is also connections betweens the themes of Macbeth and The Lion King. In both, there is
vengeance and claiming what belongs to them, as both Malcolm and Simba come back to avenge their
father's and win the throne. There is also the theme of corruption. Both Macbeth and Scar are corrupt,
as Macbeth is corrupted by the witches and his wife, as they tell him he should be king, and Scar also
wants to be King, as his ideas are gathered due to his anger that Simba will be king.

In both Macbeth and The Lion King there are similarities between the characters, including Macbeth and Scar, Malcolm and Simba, the witches and Rafiki, along with themes including vengeance and corruption.

I like your connections between the characters. The comment about the witches being a worse version of Rafiki is so true. I think the best connection you made is between Mufasa and Scar. Because Mufasa is practically Banquo, and Scar is practically Macbeth. Banquo is destined to have his children be kings, and Macbeth is destined to be king. Macbeth and Scar have similar standings and they both end up killing their brothers. By blood, and Banquo being Macbeth's best friend, almost brother. This comparison really works.
ReplyDeleteThis is a piece of literary art. You've awoken me to a completely new perspective on life as a whole, and the thief who is William Shakesphere. Through your work you have made it evident that Shakesphere had access to time machine technology, and was able to jump into the future and apprehend some of the basic ideas of the Lion King. Your correlation between Scar and Macbeth is astounding. Scar was a character that could be sympathized for his actions, aswell as Macbeth. The connection you make is very good, and just works. I also like your inverse connection to Rafiki and the witches--a very bold move, if I may say so myself. Although perhaps if the Lion King were more focused on Scar, we would of seen some sort of catalyzing force like the Witches in Macbeth. Your connections of the theme in the Lion King relative to Macbeth is also very well done. Your post brings alot of insight into the real world, and makes us question if the thematic elements of Macbeth can be found in any story of wrongdoing. Well done Traver, bien fait!
