Trump vs Macbeth: What's the Difference?

By:
Shakespeare’s Macbeth is a bloody and multi-faceted tale of corruption and exploitation. Right off the bat, readers are introduced to conflicted and naive Macbeth, a Scottish general who becomes obsessed with the idea of power, after receiving his prophecy at the beginning of the play from a trio of witches that say he will become King of Scotland. Macbeth soon is consumed with the idea of all of the power he could potentially have, so he and his wife, Lady Macbeth, devise a plan to murder King Duncan and steal the Scottish throne for himself. Once Macbeth kills
King Duncan and claims his position, he starts to act out and behave differently than he did before.

While reading this play, Macbeth’s “ambition” and “desire for control” reminded me of President Donald Trump. The perception of authority and jurisdiction has gone to both of their heads, which has caused them to act out in their own distinct ways. Macbeth’s desire for control has lead to murder, war, and overall just destruction. Trump’s desire for control has lead to empowering al-Qaeda in Syria, giving Miranda rights to captured terrorists, attacking the FBI and CIA, promoting bigotry, racism, and sexism, and so much more.

The part where they differ is their emotions and thoughts towards their behavior; they both react differently. Macbeth feels some sort of guilt and remorse after killing Duncan (that is essentially the beginning of his end which is why I am emphasizing it) and was at ONE POINT hesitant to kill him. (It was Lady Macbeth who “provoked” him to do so.) He has some sort of innocence attached to him before he commits the crime, and even after that he still contemplates what he did and begins to feel extremely paranoid. “Will all great Neptune's ocean wash this blood Clean from my hand? No, this my hand will rather The multitudinous seas in incarnadine, Making the green one red.” (2.2.) He believes that nothing could change what he has just done and that the guilt will be with him forever. Donald, on the other hand, makes one ignorant comment after another whenever something goes wrong

I think that his tweets speak for themselves...
