Macbeth Connection

By: A large connection that I have come across is the parallel between Macbeth in Macbeth and Rick from The Walking Dead. To start off Macbeth and Rick both play important leadership positions quickly in their respective roles. They are looked up to as the people that know what to do and know exactly how to do it. As you move along through their stories, you can tell that their decision making and judgement will come more into play on how it affects everyone's lives around them as well as themselves. In Macbeth, it can be seen that his actions on what to do with the kingdom. The same thing can be seen in The Walking Dead for Rick because he is the one that can essentially decide whether everyone lives or dies. Another point to look at in the similarities of the two are their factors of being murders, both literally and figuratively. Macbeth obviously kills Duncan to gain the power as king, but he does not stop there. He goes on to murder Banquo which as we can see was a hard thing for him to do. Rick has to make many of these decisions throughout the series in which he has to take the life of one to protect the lives of the ones he cares about. Although they might be killing for different reasons, the idea of taking someone's life will still get to you and drive you insane. My final point of their similarities is the concept of being able to keep a clean mental mind after all the trauma and hard times. Rick is constantly fighting for his life and being that paranoid can take a toll on your mental health. As you go through the show you can see the progress of Rick's mental state getting worse and worse until he ends up nearly going insane. The same goes for Macbeth except there is the factor of Macbeth actually getting killed because of his actions. They both have done things they are not proud of but they did them because they felt it was necessary. Having an important role and murder can take a large toll on your mental health, it seems to turn you into a dead person walking.
