Subculture proposal- Elan James Stadelmann

By: Hello all, I am proposing I do the "VR" room subculture. The reason VR is in quotations is that the VR setup is currently broken, but all of the people that make up the culture still get together and play video games in the room. It's not the VR system that makes the subculture, its the video games played and the people that show up. It is located on the first floor of Roberts, tucked away next to one of the main staircases.

1. Explain your involvement in the subculture you plan to study. 
I am an avid user of the VR room and am close friends with many of the people who hang out in it primarily.
2. Why are you interested in studying this subculture? 
I'm interested in studying this subculture because I associate with it nearly every school day. I feel just observing what I participate in daily would be easy and fun!
3. Who will you interview? Who will you observe? What other research or field work could you conduct? 
I will interview Nick Spina, Maggie Eberle, Zachary Wascowitz, Justine Strom, Amelia Boardman, as those are the main people o the subculture. I will also observe the four/five of them playing video games during my free periods. I will compare and contrast the subculture during different frees, and at different times of the day(Monday Tuesday lunches, afterschool). I would also partake in playing the video games too, and compare and contrast the different interactions with both VR and non VR games.

     Throughout Salvage the Bones, Ward makes connections between Esch and Medea both implicitly and explicitly, seeing as Esch and Medea are very similar characters. Esch relates to the mythical woman and wishes to think of herself as a version of Medea. Trump vs Macbeth: What's the Difference?

Shakespeare’s Macbeth is a bloody and multi-faceted tale of corruption and exploitation. Right off the bat, readers are introduced to conflicted and naive Macbeth, a Scottish general who becomes obsessed with the idea of power, after receiving his prophecy at the beginning of the play from a trio of witches that say he will become King of Scotland. Macbeth soon is consumed with the idea  of all of the power he could potentially have, so he and his wife, Lady Macbeth, devise a plan to murder King Duncan and steal the Scottish throne for himself. Once Macbeth kills King Duncan and claims his position, he starts to act out and behave differently than he did before. While reading this play, Macbeth’s “ambition” and “desire for control” reminded me of President Donald Trump. NLMG Connection post- Wes Pierce

Throughout Never Let Me Go, we constantly debated the topic of whether it is okay or not for Kathy and her friends to have their organs harvested in this dystopian setting. Although we know that this is simply a story and nothing more, this is a serious issue in the real world today. In this article by Dale Archer,   he discusses the serious issue of organ harvesting throughout the black market globally. Archer explains the various issues in regards to organ harvesting, such as young children and teenagers suddenly dying because of organ harvesting. He states that many of the "clients" that needs these organs are wealthy, greedy, middle age men in need of an instantaneous transplant. Archer also notes that this organ harvesting process can have ties to human and sex trafficking.
