     I can't believe it Charlottesville, I just can't believe how you are treating your own people. How could a place that is so close to where I grew up be in such peril. White supremacists preaching their hate, our president not taking any action to punish those who attempt to murder others who are different. These religious and governmental institutions are the reasons that I set out into the wild all those years ago. One man thinking he is better then another because of the color of his skin. Has Thoreau taught us nothing? Has no one listened to him speak about whats on the inside not out. The truth in people can't be found in the pigment of their skin. These confederates who are dominating these protests must learn peace. Driving a car into crowds of people is not peace! Who is responsible, the KKK?  The closeted confederates who decided to ban together to prevent the destruction of racist statues? In my travels I have learned how to deal with others and their differences. When I was younger I took a harsher stand for what I believed in, this lead to the exiling of my family, and the lose of my friends. I know what its like to protest, I went on an Alaskan adventure to protest society. What I didn't realize when I was younger was that there were different aspects of society, and that you can't live a full life without respecting those aspects. Charlottesville needs peace and respect of others differences and so far I am very disappointed in how America is treating their own

     Throughout Salvage the Bones, Ward makes connections between Esch and Medea both implicitly and explicitly, seeing as Esch and Medea are very similar characters. Esch relates to the mythical woman and wishes to think of herself as a version of Medea. One point in the novel that I think perfectly encompasses this idea is a quote on page 38, "In Mythology , I am still reading about   Medea and the quest for the Golden Fleece. Here is something that I recognize. When Medea falls in love with Jason, it grabs me by the throat. I can see her. Medea sneaks Jason things to help him: ointments to make him invisible, secrets in rocks. She has magic, could bend the natural to the unnatural. Trump vs Macbeth: What's the Difference?

Shakespeare’s Macbeth is a bloody and multi-faceted tale of corruption and exploitation. Right off the bat, readers are introduced to conflicted and naive Macbeth, a Scottish general who becomes obsessed with the idea of power, after receiving his prophecy at the beginning of the play from a trio of witches that say he will become King of Scotland. Macbeth soon is consumed with the idea  of all of the power he could potentially have, so he and his wife, Lady Macbeth, devise a plan to murder King Duncan and steal the Scottish throne for himself. Once Macbeth kills King Duncan and claims his position, he starts to act out and behave differently than he did before. While reading this play, Macbeth’s “ambition” and “desire for control” reminded me of President Donald Trump. The perception of authority and jurisdiction has gone to both of their heads, which has caused them to  act out in their own distinct ways. Nick Traver- Macbeth Connection

There are many connections between the themes and characters of Macbeth and The Lion King. In Macbeth , Macbeth is like Scar in The Lion King. Macbeth kills Duncan for the throne just like Scar kills Mufasa for the throne. Macbeth feels like he is underappreciated when Duncan says Malcolm is next up for the throne, just as Scar felt when he knew that Simba would be king over him. For both characters, Macbeth and Scar, they were both willing to kill people close to them in order to get what they thought they deserved or wanted. Also, Malcolm is sort of like Simba. Both Malcolm and Simba are banished, or cast away from their home after their fathers were killed. Both of them fled for their own safety. Additionally, when they were cast away from society they grew as people, and eventually came back stronger then ever and challenged for the throne.
